Before & After School Care
Language development is enhanced through listening and expressing feelings. Memorizing and repeating rhymes, songs, finger plays and letter identification is a part of the curriculum. Social skills are enriched through group activities, snack time, lunch time, and outdoor play. All of these activities teach children independence and making choices. During circle time each day, children discuss the weather, calendar and the theme of the week. Art activities each day are connected to the theme. Math activities include basic counting, identifying shapes and colors as well as using beads, blocks, and assorted manipulatives. Science is explored through observation and discussion of seasons, animals, and sea life. Fine and gross motor skills are enhanced through physical activities in the classroom and on the playground. All our classrooms activities are teacher directed and the usage of learning centers.
The curriculum in the Pre-Kindergarten class is geared to pre-reading, math, writing and language skills. The program is based on the child attending 5 mornings or 5 full days. The Scholastic Literacy and Phonics program teaches oral language, and poetry, phonics, vocabulary and reading skills. Our math program teaches not only simple math skills such as counting, calendar and geometry, but also includes problem solving and mathematical reasoning. Social skills are enriched through group activities, snack, lunchtime and outdoor play. Music class is held twice a week with a music teacher. In addition finger plays, tapes and rhythm band are part of the daily schedule. Art activities, social studies, science concepts, and Spanish are incorporated into the daily curriculum.
Kindergarten emphasizes Language Arts focusing on children becoming effective communicators: recognition and sounds of the alphabet, blends, words, and sentences. The reading skills are developed using the Scholastic Literary and Phonics texts.
Mathematics provides students with numeric concepts, including addition and subtraction, concrete, pictorial and problems solving skills utilizing the Seton Academy Math text.
Social Studies will be used to explore concepts relating to self, home, school, and community.
Science will allow children to classify objects, make predictions, and record information.
Spanish will be taught each day, while children will listen to tapes and practice using words in sentences.
Art activities will allow students to explore with a variety of mediums. Art appreciation is introduced through the identification of famous paintings.
Writing skills will be developed to provide students with an opportunity to express themselves through words, signs, and symbols.
Children will also have instruction in computers, music, physical education, field trips, and outdoor activities.
The Seton Academy all day Kindergarten will offer all these curriculum avenues and more to encourage and enhance the love of learning.
Seton Academy also offers Dance & Gymnastics, Karate and Computer Tots for your child. These classes are taught by professional companies that visit select schools in the area. These classes are optional and are offered during the course of the child’s day.
